Little Guys Club Picnic

July 11th, 2009

Kudos to Dianne Stansell for planning and executing an extraordinary picnic at a beautiful park hidden in Carlsbad.  An excellent turn out and we practically had the entire park to ourselves.  Horseshoes, dominos, beanbag toss and lots of other games and activities were available along with three barbeques, fired up by our retired Firefighter Bob Bliss, for the members to cook their burgers, chicken, brats, hot dogs and in the case of Curt Coltier a thick juicy T-bone steak.  Lots of extras, including great potato salads, salsas, specialty salads and lots of desserts.  We put some popups together to form a large shady spot and everyone had a great time.  Newest members John and Linda brought their little Mustang, prospective members Barbara and Gerry came in their absolutely gorgeous 55 Bel Air and Al Ellis showed up in one of his classics, a Model A roadster pickup.  Dianne had lots of help from the members and they all deserve a round of applause for a great job.  Dianne is already planning the August event and it looks to be another great activity.

Bob puts a couple burgers on the grill, while Curt keeps an eye on his steak and chats with Red.

Great job by Judy of keeping the condiments and fixings in order.

"I know it's in here some place", said Carol as she rummaged through her giant purse.

Howard gets to know Barbara and Gerry.

"Are they done yet?" Frank wants to know.

Introducing the Bocce Ball champs.

"Okay, what do we do next?"

Harry showing his talents to the beginners.

The idea is to get as close to the little yellow ball is possible. I don't think they get it.

Maybe this time.

Grace and form, NOT!!

Bob is getting the hang of it.

Mr. Personality, Zach demonstrates Bolo Ball.

Look at that form.

This photo should be in the dictionary under "Relaxed".

As the afternoon settled down the ladies started playing Dominoes.

Linda, Susie, Carol and Dianne are engrossed in the game.

This looks like fun.

I put the camera away before we sliced up some cool watermelon (didn't want to get it on the camera).   Proud to say we left the park cleaner than we found it.  Thanks to our clean up detail.
