The 2007 Fall Mountain Run was officially cancelled for a number of reasons.
It was decided to have an "Unofficial Fall Mountain Run" and just have a fun
cruise to Julian.
About 40 cars met at Dalton's Road House and caravanned
out Highway 78 and through Ramona on the way to Dudley's Bakery in Santa
Isabel and then on to Julian. The usually beautiful ride was marred by
the destruction from the Witch Fire. Many destroyed homes were
observed and there were areas where one home would be standing with one
burned to the ground on either side of it. There were a lot of cars
also victim to the fire, one place had a '57 Chevy, 50 Merc and a Hudson
Hornet burnt beyond repair. Along the way several cars merged into the
caravan and when we stopped at Dudley's there were a few more waiting there.
There was a very long line at Dudley's to get some of their great bread and
rolls and an impromptu car show in the parking lot. After everyone got
their bread and rolls, it was back on the road and on to Julian, where there
were a few of the Country Gents waiting for us to join them in a fun
afternoon. There were about 55 to 60 hot rods and muscle cars parked
all over Julian and you could see happy car nuts riding in the horse drawn
carriage, eating in the many nice restaurants and shopping in the antique
stores and novelty shops. Over-the-Hill-Gang, County Cruisers, Axel
Draggers, Outriders and others were proudly displaying club shirts and
jackets. There were also a lot of old Fall Mountain Run shirts in
evidence. I think it is safe to say that everyone had a great time and
look forward to maybe doing this again next year. Laid back and fun.
